People Magazine referred to her as “the last woman standing.” Over the course of 12 weeks, Kelly Minner, a 29 year old school teacher from Pennsylvania became more than a household name. She became an inspiration to overweight America as she bravely lost 79 pounds on national television during NBC's hit reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser. A media favorite, Kelly's story has been featured on The Today Show, The Jane Pauley Show, People Magazine (three times), T.V. Guide, The View and Access Hollywood on three separate occasions. She most recently appeared on the front cover of Women's World magazine in May 2005. To date, Kelly has lost 92 pounds, and continues to be a model for healthy living.

As the only female contestant to make it to the final three, her competitive spirit is fierce. However, Kelly's story really begins long ago as an 8 year old little girl known to her childhood friends as “Mootha.” Being “MOOed” at by childhood bullies is enough to shake most people's confidence well into adulthood, but not Kelly Minner. While the weight loss reality show helped Kelly transform her body, she never lacked the self confidence to pursue her dreams. “What I want people to know about me is that I enjoyed life before I lost the weight. You can ask anyone I know and they'll tell you that I've never had aspirations to be a beauty queen, and that I've never expressed any desire to be famous. I've only ever wanted to be the best me that I could be, and I know now that the only way to do that was to take control of my body.”

As a teacher, Kelly states “Standing in front of a group of high school children, day in and day out, for the past five years, knowing that I was obese and that obesity could be fatal was definitely sending out a pretty poor message. I wanted these children to respect me and learn from me, and yet the example I set before them every day was that it was acceptable and clearly not a problem for me to be overweight. Let me clarify that I wasn't just a few pounds overweight. I wasn't even thirty, forty or fifty pounds overweight. I would fluctuate from being anywhere between seventy and one hundred and ten pounds overweight, which is clinically obese and clearly a health risk.”

Kelly continues to inspire those who hear her story. She currently available for lectures across America and is involved with various projects that help America learn about childhood obesity and how to make a healthy lifestyle change. Contact us today to bring Kelly to your organization.
